The week of November 11th through the 15th Missouri Western’s Student Government Association held a whole week of events for students and members. The week long celebration kicked off on Monday the 11th with an SGA Luncheon followed with a Town Hall Meeting in Spratt 101 at 6:30pm.

The organization started Tuesday the 12th off with a Build and Sip event at 2 pm then a Trap Karaoke sing-a-long that night at 7 pm. Wednesday the 13th SGA had a nontraditional and commuter luncheon at 11 am.

Student Government Association gave the janitors in Scanlon Hall a day of rest on Thursday the 14th by doing community service through our campus. They cleaned the floors, tables, and all other janitorial duties in Scanlon Hall starting at 10 am. The club finished a productive day with a stress relieving comedy act of a Wild n’ Out act. Friday November 15th the organization held an Oxfam Hunger Banquet in Fulkerson center at 7pm.

The event packed week finished on Sunday November 17th with the Student Government Association Pageant.

Student body President, Engoma Fakaki is a political science and international studies double major.

“So the inspiration behind SGA week really was wanting to change the week from the springtime to the fall semester since we typically have the most freshmen in the fall so we can raise awareness about SGA about the resource that we are to the students so they can come to us and give us feedback on what we should improve on for the next semester and next academic year,” said Fakatki.

Missouri Western student Jashira Bolden is a political science major and a minor in legal studies, and currently serves as the Director of Student Involvement for Student Government Association.

“The reason I joined SGA was because I really wanted to be a voice for the students. I actually started my journey with SGA my freshman year, I became the vice chairwoman of the external relations committee and mainly I saw how much they implemented into student lives so I thought it would be a great idea to keep going. Eventually I became a justice for the judicial branch and then now. I served as a director so I definitely got my feet wet before just jumping into a cabinet position, but most definitely I see it as a way of getting more students involved and also as a way of getting their voice heard,” said Bolden.

Missouri Western student Yasmine Jackson,a sophomore business marketing major with a minor in entrepreneurship, and is the Vice Chairman for Student Government Association.

“I wanted to just give myself more involved, I was already involved in a lot of different organizations, but is more direct contact with students. So I like SGA specifically because it is for the students. Also because when we have our events, they’re not based off of what we want. It’s based off of what we’ve heard other students asking for, and we’re here to provide that,” said Jackson. Student Government Association has grown in members and in involvement around campus. If you want to give back to Missouri Western student government is a great organization to get involved in. Meetings are held on Mondays in the Junior College Room in Blum Student Union at 5 p.m.
